What Yiimi is
Yiimi is a free app for voice and video calls, messages — text, photos, voice notes and documents — and short updates between people who use Yiimi. In this version, calls and messages go only between Yiimi users. It is made by Yiimi Technology, based in Kenya. By creating an account you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.
Your account
Your account is your phone number, verified by a code. Keep your phone secure; what is done from your account is yours. You must be 18 or older. One person, one account.
What you may not do
Yiimi exists so that people can reach each other safely. So you may not use it to:
- harass, threaten or abuse anyone;
- run scams or fraud, or try to trick anyone out of money or information;
- pretend to be someone you are not;
- send spam or unwanted calls, or contact people who have asked you to stop;
- share content that is illegal, or that you have no right to share;
- interfere with the service, other people’s accounts, or our systems.
Reporting, blocking, and what we do about it
You can block anyone; they will not be able to call or message you, and they are not told. You can report a person, a message or an update from inside the app. A person on the Yiimi team reviews every report within 24 hours. The person you report is not told who reported them. Repeated or serious abuse ends the account. We may also remove content and suspend or delete accounts that break these rules, and we will tell you why unless the law prevents it.
Your content
What you send stays yours. You give us only what we need to deliver it: to store your messages, and the photos, voice notes and documents in them, for as long as they exist, to show your updates to your contacts for 24 hours, and to relay your calls. We do not use your content for anything else. What you send must be yours to send and must not be illegal or harmful to anyone; a file in a reported message may be kept for review.
The service
Yiimi is free. Calls and messages use your internet connection, which your mobile provider may charge for. We work hard to keep Yiimi running, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of faults, and we may change or withdraw features. To the extent the law allows, Yiimi is provided as it is, and we are not liable for losses that come from using it or from being unable to use it.
Ending things
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings → Delete account) or through the account deletion page. We can end an account that breaks these terms. Either way, the Privacy Policy says what happens to your data.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and disputes are handled by the courts of Kenya, unless the law where you live gives you rights that cannot be taken away.
Changes and contact
